DC40 is one of the last generation of up-right vacuum cleaner from Dyson. As well as the DC37, it integrates the patented Radial Root Cyclone™ as well as the Dyson ball technology for a better manoeuvrability.
While I was working for Dyson’s R&D, I took part on that project and designed some elements of the product. Many clever solutions were developed to allow the final machine to function and perform as it does. As usual in Dyson, the approach to problem solving was iterative, sketching ideas, making quick and dirty prototypes all the way down to CAD and rapid prototyping, testing it, breaking it and doing it all over again until it reaches perfection.
The development of the DC40 was my first project at Dyson and the fruit of a collaborative work with a team of about 10 people.
